Kinesiology
A system of diagnosis and treatment which uses assessment of a patient's muscle responses to manual pressure to detect and locate blockage and imbalance of energy flow; The process is based on the belief that each group of muscles is related to other distant parts of the body, and generally follows the principles of traditional Chinese medicine. The kinesiology channels are identical to the 12 classical acupuncture meridians; and treatment is given by massaging ‘pressure points’ to enhance blood, lymphatic, and energy flow to the muscles. Application of kinesiology is for allergy testing, when food, chemicals, or other possible allergens placed in the hand or on the tongue are said to induce detectable effects upon the body's muscle power and electrical field.

Acupuncture
A medical practice known in China for over 3000 years, which has come to attract attention in the West. It consists of the insertion into the skin and underlying tissues of fine needles, usually made of steel, and of varying lengths according to the depth of the target point. The site of insertion of each needle is selected according to the points and meridians related to the tissue or organ believed to be disordered, and several hundred specific points have been identified. Areas which are painful on pressure may also be selected (‘trigger point’ acupuncture).

Shiatsu
A form of massage in which pressure is applied to acupuncture points and meridians using the fingers, thumbs, and sometimes elbows, knees, hands, and feet. The diagnosis of energy imbalance or blockage is made according to the principles of traditional Chinese medicine, but with an emphasis on abdominal diagnosis to select the points and meridians for treatment. The massage is designed to release blockages and balance the flow of energy, and healing energy may also be transmitted from the practitioner to the patient during a shiatsu treatment.

Reflexology
An ancient system of analyzes and treatment, dating from c.3000 BC, based on the belief that an image of the entire body, including the internal organs, is represented on the surface of the foot. Although reflexology zones do not correspond exactly to acupuncture meridians, the analyzes is based on the same principles as found in traditional Chinese medicine, where illness is seen as due to blockage of energy flow. Palpation of the feet locates sites of tenderness or crystalline deposits beneath the skin which relate to the sites of blockage, and treatment is given by pressure and massage to disperse the blockages and stimulate the internal organs. Although reflexology is not effective for treatment of surgical problems or structural abnormalities, there are many reports of success in treating functional disorders such as headaches, constipation, and stress-induced disorders.
